The Luther500 Festival is one of the most exciting International events for Lutherans in the Grand Jubilee Year of 2017.
The festival is a combination of European vacation, historical and theological learning, cultural immersion and lots of fun. You’ll also have the chance to meet and get to know others who share your interest in the Reformation and German heritage and culture.
The days are framed by morning and evening prayer in historic churches. Throughout each day there are all kinds of interest-center options ranging from recreation and service to history, art and hands-on in-person learning. There is a bit of evening program as the community grows in fellowship, lots of time for relaxation and exploring on your own, and optional day trips to Eisleben, to Wartburg Castle and Erfurt, to Torgau and Leipzig, and to Berlin. Reformation-age and modern European and German history surround you.
You’ll move into Wittenberg for the week and have the chance to get to know the place and the history shaped there. Many people come solo or with a friend, many families participate, and some participate as part of congregational groups. It’s an intergenerational experience with lots of engaging options for everyone from kids to youth groups to college and seminary students, to adults and senior citizens. There is time to do your own thing and time to be with the group as you desire.
The cost includes six nights of lodging in Wittenberg, two meals each day, museum and exhibit admissions, the day trips, tour guides and program leaders, interest centers and presenters, and medical insurance while at the Festival.
Many groups will choose to add days to the trip as well. We will publish some popular itineraries among which you can choose if you’d like to extend the trip.
